How to update LoanVision to a new version, alpha or beta version, or add a module
Last Modified: 12-06-2004 22:01 by robbrandt

As of version 3.0, LoanVision has a nifty update utility included with it that allows the user to update or install new modules effortlessly over the internet without even opening a web browser.  Here's how to do it:
  • Starting the Update Utility
    • While LoanVision is running, click on the Help menu (on the Windows version) or the Support menu (on the Mac version) and select Update LoanVision.  Click "Yes" to the question about quiting LoanVision.
    • Alternatively, you can start the Utility manually.  On Windows, click on the Windows Start, select "Program Files" or "All Programs", select the "LoanVision 3" group, then select the "LoanVision Setup-Update Utility".  You can also go to the LoanVision folder on your hard drive, open the "webinstall" folder, and double click on the setup.exe file.  On Macs, open the LoanVision 3 for Mac folder on your hard drive and double click on the "LoanVision3 Installer" file.
  • Updating LoanVision
    • Read each page of the utility and click on the Next button until you get to the Installation Options window.
    • On Windows, click on the Update button.  On Mac, click on the drop down list and select Update.
    • Click on the Next button until the download process begins.
    • The utiltiy will finish on it's own and quit.  Your update is complete.
  • Adding Modules
    • Read each page of the utility and click on the Next button until you get to the Installation Options window.
    • On Windows, click on the Custom button.  On Mac, click on the drop down list and select Custom.  Click on the Next button.
    • Keep in mind that if you are using a registered (paid for) version of LoanVision, installing a demo version will not work.  To install a "full" version, you must have a password, which you get when you pay for the module.  If you are using a demo of LoanVision, only install demo versions of modules.
    • On Windows, click on the module options you want to install.  Do not select any options that that do not start with the word "Module" unless you really know what you're doing.
    • On Macs, deselect  the module options you do not want to install.  Click on the Next button and deselect all of the components, unless you really know what you're doing.
    • Click on the Next button until the download process begins.
    • The utiltiy will finish on it's own and quit.  Your update is complete.
  • Updating specific components, or installing an Alpha or Beta version.
    • Installing specific components or Alpha/Beta versions of LoanVision should only be done if you have been directed to or really know what you're doing.  Sometimes we add a feature or fix a bug in a particular component of LoanVision and you can make use of it before the next full revision cycle is complete.  Or, if you suspect that your computer has corrupted a particular file, you can install just that file without reinstalling the whole program.  Also, you can install Alpha or Beta versions of LoanVision.  These "pre-release" versions can be thought of as works in progress, and don't necessarily work correctly.  But they will have a certain number of bug fixes and/or features implemented that you may want to take advantage of.  Alpha versions should be considered quite raw and untested by large numbers of users.  An Alpha version may be labeled as "3.01a1", meaning alpha 1 of version 3.01.  Beta versions are usually accumulations of previous Alpha versions and are usually better tested by more users.  Beta versions may be labeled as "3.01b3" meaning 3rd beta of version 3.01.  A typical LoanVision release cycle would involve a mix of these, such as this order: 3.01a1, 3.01a2, 3.01b1, 3.01b2, 3.01b3, and finally the official 3.01 version.  If you do decide to use an alpha or beta version of LoanVision, procede at your own risk and make sure that you frequently keep backup your data and keep several versions of the backup data on hand.  Installing components and modules is similar to installing Modules (above)....
    • Read each page of the utility and click on the Next button until you get to the Installation Options window.
    • On Windows, click on the Custom button.  On Mac, click on the drop down list and select Custom.  Click on the Next button.
    • On Windows, click on the component options you want to install.  Do not select any options that that do not start with the word "Module" unless you really know what you're doing.  The individual components and the alpha and beta options are listed below the modules.
    • On Macs, deselect  the module options.  Click on the Next button and deselect all of the components you do not want to install.
    • Click on the Next button until the download process begins.
    • The utiltiy will finish on it's own and quit.  Your update is complete.
