LoanVision v3 is ready for beta testing!

Posted by robbrandt on Dec 06, 2002 - 02:07 AM

LoanVision v3 Mortgage Origination and Processing system is now available for beta testing. Initially, only the Windows version is available as the Mac version still needs work re-aligning fonts and graphics. Here are the details:
* Download the files here. You'll find the installer for Windows, and separate installer for the optional modules. Use the "Demo" option if you install any modules.

* The main installer is crude; it will only install onto your C: drive at the moment, and sometimes pauses for long periods of time. Don't panic, it hasn't crashed, it will continue. The installer will be completely re-written before final release.

* If you have an existing LoanVision database, the new version will convert it, but proceed with caution; this is the first beta, and there may be problems. To convert your old data, make a copy of your old loanvisi.df1 and setup.df1 files and put them into the new C:\LoanVision3 folder. Do not use your original data files. Then, delete the existing "LoanVision.df1" data file and rename the copy of loanvisi.df1 to LoanVision.df1. The first time you start LoanVision with the old data it will go through an update process; make sure you say "Yes" to all of the questions.

* Version 3 uses a new more reliable method of doing page setups for printing. It will detect your printer the first time it is run, and give you an opportunity to create your setups. You can do it then, or later by clicking on the "Setup Printer" option on the file menu. Doing the setups is straight forward. Double click on each page type (i.e., "Legal Portrait") click on the Page Setup button in the Print Parameters window, then set your printer just as if you were printing that type of document. Make sure the Printer Tray setting is correct. "Automatic" usually works, but setting the exact tray doesn't hurt and is guaranteed reliable. Do each page type.

* If you need help with the new version of have other questions, please subscribe to the LoanVision Help Mail mailing list. It is the primary means for support for the beta period.

* If you find a bug, please report it. Often seemingly obvious problems slip our detection, and users think "someone else must have reported this" leaving it completely unreported. We have a new Bug Tracker just for this. Check to see if it's listed. If it's not, we don't know about it. Then, report the bug.

What`s New in Version 3?

Version 3 of LoanVision incorporates a completely new version of the software language we use, and thus provides a great deal more compatibility with newer operating systems than previously available. This means:
* It works under all flavors of Windows NT, including 2000 and XP.

* It has no problems with USB printers.

* It no longer needs to have a network drive mapped as a local drive.

* It no longer has a problem installing with systems having more than 100 fonts.

* It no longer has problems printing to dedicated print servers like a JetDirect.

* It has generally better performance.

In addition to the above inherent advantages of using a new language, we've added the following features:

* The look and feel has been modernized to standard gray windows with icons.

* The window objects like checkboxes and radio buttons have a 3d look.

* The data lists have been replaced by tables with sortable columns.

* The automatic printer setups have been enhanced as mentioned above.

We have a great many things planned to be added yet as well, but we didn't want to put off this release while we add them in. If you have suggestions regarding what needs to be added, you can add that in the Bug Tracker too.
